My name is Marty McConnell. I do the assmblage art (canvas, boxes, shrines, embroidery, pins) show in these pages. I’ve always been doing some form of art as long as I can remember. Around 10 years ago I started doing it more seriously. I started taking more classes, most of them from Michael de Meng, in person and online. I’m constantly trying new things and learning new techniques, which brings about new ideas. I am in competition with myself. What have I done before? How can I do it better? What can I do new?

I have a deep and life long love of the darker things. I was brought up with Universal Monsters, Old Silent Horror Movies, and my beloved Vincent Price. I grew up reading Shakespeare, Poe, Steven King and Anne Rice and then discovered Shirley Jackson, M.R. James, and Daphne du Maurier. I love scary movies, the color black, true crime and COFFEE.

My ideal day would be dark and stormy, at my work table making art with a cup of coffee by my side and either The Bat (with Vincent Price and Agnes Moorhead) or anything with Robert Englund playing in the backround.

Dysthymic Bliss started with me and has grown now into a Family Business as everyone in this house is an artist and we all help and support each other.

Photo of the Woman with the Raven and again with the skull is the original Vamp, Theda Bara.
