Here is a peek at works while in process. Depending on the piece it can be anywhere from an afternoon (if I speed up drying with a heat gun) to a week, even more if it’s for a gallery show. It’s a process of staring at a pile of things I’ve picked out, or a picture, or a little piece of something that’s called to me be it a scrap of fabric or a bit of metal that came off an old antique door. Then it’s literally paint it black. I know it may sound weird, but I see what I want to do better when it starts out painted black. Then the layers start. So many layers - things to give texture to the backround, layers of washes to give depth or a glow to it, then more layers of more bits. I’ve found it will tell me when it’s done.
